Background
Kagome Higurashi was born in an old temple in modern times. On her 15th birthday, she fell into a sacred well on her property and was carried back in time to the feudal age. It was there she met Inuyasha and discovered that she might be the reincarnation of a powerful priestess named Kikyo. She was in possession of the Shikon no Tama, or Sacred Stone, which is a jewel with great power. She accidentally caused it to shatter into small shards, which she and Inuyasha are charged to find. She has the power to sense the shards, and he has the power to fight for them.
Kagome travels through the well between time periods. Her mother, grandfather, and brother Souta are aware of the situation, and they try to cover for her absences with crazy excuses. She often brings modern food and medical supplies to the feudal age, which enhances her reputation as a powerful priestess.

First Appearance Episode 01 - She is a main character throughout the series, and the first character to appear. The show may be named after Inuyasha, but we really end up following Kagome wherever she goes.

Special Powers Kagome has the power to detect and purify Shikon shards. She can sense them when they are nearby, and she tells Inuyasha where in a demon's body they are located so he can remove them. She has limited ability with a bow and arrow. She is also good at healing people and can organize crowds well. She can keep Inuyasha under control by saying "Osuwari!" (sit). This forces him to the ground from wherever he is standing or jumping. Kikyo's sister Kaede gave her this power by making a spell on a rosary necklace and throwing it around Inuyasha's neck. Inuyasha can't remove it.
